Lazy Sunday Evening Brain Dump
Um... Volume 1
It’s Sunday, and I’m basking in the warm glow of a day off. Well, sort of a day off. I mean, I’m writing this Substack, so not a full day off. And I did other stuff, too, like very tedious admin. And I sent some emails. Oh, and I wrote a comic.
But apart from that, it has been a relaxing day off.
I realised that I hadn’t checked in here on Substack for a while, and since everyone else in my house is either off doing other things (humans) or completely ignoring me (cats) then I thought I might as well do a little round-up of what’s been happening of late.
Comic News
First-up, I finally got around to putting my one-short horror comic THE BONE HOUSE up for sale. A limited run of 100 signed copies went up for grabs last week, and we’re down to the final 20 or 30. I wrote about THE BONE HOUSE here on Substack a while back and now I am finally selling off signed copies of the comic, alongside copies of my SPACE TEAM comic.
You can find them both over at ZertexStore.com, should you be inclined to get your hands on what will, without question, become a much sought after collector’s item in years to come. Probably. I mean, no guarantees.
Speaking of comics, I’ve been working away on a graphic novel adaptation of my novel THE SIDEKICKS INITIATIVE for a few months now. It was always my dream to write the story as a comic series, but because I didn’t have the funds available to pay an artist, I wrote it as a novel, instead.
Now, nearing 7 years after it was published as a novel, it’s finally coming together in the format it was originally intended for. I’m launching a crowdfunder for it next year, and you can follow along now to stay up to date.

Oh, and in other comic news, I discovered recently that a lot of people aren’t aware of the fact that Bob & Berta Hoon have their own comic. The third strip - a Halloween story - is currently being drawn by the artist, Stephen White, and you can read the first two over on my website.
Movie Madness
In other news, GROW, the Feel Good Family Film of the Fall (or of the Autumn, if you speak the Queen’s English. Or is it the King’s English now? It’s some member of the Royal Family’s English, anyway. I really hope it’s not Prince Andrew’s English. Dear God, please don’t let it be Andrew’s English!)
Where was I? Oh, yeah, GROW was released on Sky Cinema in the UK on Friday, and will be hitting movie theatres in the US from Friday 17th October.
My wife and I are co-producers on the movie through our company, Zertex Media, and it’s great to see the film finally out in the world. It’s heartwarming, tear-jerking, laugh-out-loud, and an absolute belter of a family film featuring an all-star British cast.
If you’re in the UK and have Sky Cinema, you can watch it now. If you don’t have Sky Cinema, it’ll be in actual cinemas soon for a limited run before Halloween.
And if you’re in the US, you can book your tickets to watch it here.
Speaking of movies, plans are afoot to produce MIDGIES next year. If you haven’t yet watched our proof of concept trailer (or even if you have) check it out below.
Book Update
I have a new book coming out this week. THE WOMAN DOWNSTAIRS is a standalone psychological thriller published by Bookouture, and will be available on Kindle, Audible, and as a paperback via Amazon.
Early reviews of the book have been lovely, and it’s nice to see that readers have enjoyed a hefty dose of humour alongside the much darker tale of stalkers, murder, and mayhem.
I’ve been told that the ebook edition has been selected for a special promo the week after publication, where the price will be dropped to 99p/99c, so unless you’re desperate to be the first to get your hands on it, I’d suggest holding off a few days to grab your copy, so you can save yourself a couple of quid and/or bucks.
Should you decide you want to grab a copy either now or in the less expensive future, you can do so right here.
Right, that’s me done for now. I’m off to watch Only Murders in the Building while drinking a lovely, lovely cup of tea. Enjoy all that stuff up above!

I’ve listened to the woman downstairs on audible. Excellent. Forgot to leave a review, so I’d better go back and do that now. Don’t know how you have the energy for so many projects Barry. More power to your elbow.
I love these check-ins that you do. I am always amazed by how many projects you have going on at one time. I look forward to reading, and hopefully, watching more of your work. I got started with your Logan series, but I love all the other series that have come from that as well. I have also enjoyed the stand alone works. The dark humor is one of the things I love most about your characters! Keep up the excellent work..All my best to you and yours.
