More Comic Book Shenanigans Ahoy!

A few months back, while doing the weekly 4 hour round trip with my daughter to Inverness and back, I came up with an idea for a horror comic series. The idea came from nowhere, but got stuck in my head, and wouldn’t leave me alone even after I’d written a script for a standalone 60-odd page issue. Here’s the concept…

DEVILISH

Once the Church’s greatest exorcist, Father Elias Cross is now its darkest secret.
Since taking up his post, Elias has successfully exorcised twelve demons, saving the lives, the sanity, and the souls of the hosts they had infected.
The exorcism part, he could do. The banishing them to Hell bit? Not so much.
Now, all twelve demons are trapped inside Elias himself, writhing around in his mind, constantly wrestling for control.
But when occult mysteries are uncovered, ancient evils walk the Earth, or supernatural entities start throwing their weight around, Elias can draw on the abilities of the imprisoned demons to fight back against the darkness.
Shunned by the Church that made him, and feared by the creatures he used to hunt, Elias walks the thin line between man and monster, while trying not to lose what’s left of himself in the process.
Because he’s no longer just a man.
He’s a devil*.
*Ish.

I used to write books based on the kids’ cartoon series, BEN 10, and this is basically an adult horror version of that concept, but with demons instead of aliens, and child abduction by mirror-dwelling entities instead of a funny grandpa with a motorhome.

Here are the first six pages, with art by the amazing Hernan Gonzalez and letters by Marina Leon.

Let me know what you think of the concept and art. I’m still not sure whether to publish this under the name Barry Hutchison or JD Kirk. Maybe I’ll create yet another pen name specifically for this…
